A local business in Jefferson is once again providing a public service for anyone who wants to get rid of documents in their homes.
Home State Bank is hosting a Shred Day event tomorrow, where anyone can bring any acceptable items to be shredded in a secured way, with a company, to dispose of them. Marketing and Communications Director Jackie Cunningham says Home State Bank holds this Shred Day for two main reasons with the first being passionate about keeping the community safe by providing a way for households to throw out dated paper copies and other unnecessary paper items. Cunningham notes the other reason is to add extra help to the local food pantry, by donating $0.25 per pound of shredded items to the Greene County Action Resource Center (ARC). She states that when people come to shred their items, they can also bring non-perishable foods or monetary donations to be given directly to the food pantry as well.
Cunningham points out that last year, Home State Bank donated a total of $1,275 after collecting over 5,100 pounds of shredded items. She says people who want to either donate and/or shred their documents on Wednesday from 4-5:30pm should enter through the East Lincoln Way entrance into the parking lot and exit onto Vine Street. She asks for people to not start lining up before 4pm, so that the shred truck can be positioned to ensure a smoother run event.
Cunningham adds that people can stay in their vehicles when dropping off their items to be shredded and that they will not accept binders, clips, spiral items or metal materials
