A project that was entirely made possible by community members in the city of Jefferson will celebrate the completion of a project that was started last fall.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at 1:30pm for the pickleball court in Russell Park. City Administrator Scott Peterson reminds everyone that the $217,301 project was entirely done without any taxpayer money used to complete it.
“This is a true community project. This city had received some gifted funds years ago from the Radebaugh family. So some of those funds were included to kind of kick the project off. But through a substantial Grow Greene County (Gaming Corporation) grant, and some substantial private fundraising, yeah, as far as taxpayer dollars, there’s zero dollars of taxpayer money into this project.”
Peterson talks about a project like the pickleball court is not something that is done by the community all of the time.
“Just love the way that the community comes together. They identified a project they really want to do and there’s people who are passionate about it and willing to work hard to see it happen. It’s exciting when those things come together. It’s great for the community.”
Peterson encourages anyone to play on the court, as everything is up and functioning. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is open to the public.
