The first ever Perry excellence in sports performance yearly Awards (PESPY) were given out on Saturday.  This was a chance for Perry to celebrate the last 12 months of Perry athletics.  The event was spent reminiscing about broken records and strong athletic performances.  Perry AD, Tina Lutterman, was pleased with the first edition and can’t wait to do it again.

Our first annual PESPY’s – Senior Athletic Awards Night – celebrated and recognized our 59 senior class athletes. It was a fitting way to honor the record breakers, multi-sport athletes, and standout performances. We’re proud to honor the dedication, achievements, and spirit of this exceptional senior class and their coaches. This will be an annual event, hoping to encourage even more participation in our future senior classes.”

A total of 11 awards were handed out.  Breakthrough Athlete was given to Narciso Hidalgo, Aidan Carlson, and Litzy Ramirez.  The Dan Marburger Award went to Benjamin Cornejo and Natalie Castillo.  Geren Kenney and Taryn Nehring won the first ever Athlete of the Year at Perry.

“It was really exciting and I’m glad I got to be recognized for all of my hard work.”

Coach of the year went to boy’s basketball Coach David Morris while the team of the year was his 13-10 basketball squad.

“Every candidate up there was great.  I mean they were gonna be okay with whoever won it.  Just winning myself was a nice acknowledgement.”

Quin Mahler-Moreno and Owen Myers won the Individual Performance Award.  Myers won the accolade for his record breaking 47 points against South Hamilton.

“Yeah.  That’s pretty cool knowing that hard work has paid off after these four years.”

Four milestones were acknowledged including Kenney and Myers scoring 1000 points and in girl’s wrestling Julie Maylum and Mercedes Ponce winning 100 career matches.  There were also 20 records set in the past 12 months by Bluejays and Jayettes.
