The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday.
The board held a Conservation Department workshop, where Director Curt Cable discussed the proposed timeline it would take to repair the Raccoon River Valley Trail Bridge in Adel that was damaged by a fire on May 12th. He said that the plan is to get an approval of a design contract in June at a conservation board meeting, then get a flood plan permit in August, followed by eventual construction from February to April of 2026, then have it open next May. Cable explained that the total amount damage to the bridge was $896,000 and set phase five of the trail connection from Adel to Ortonville back a year as it was supposed to be completed in 2027, but is now pushed back to 2028
Following the workshop, the board then approved a Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Suburban Emergency Response Team 28E agreement to add Polk City and Windsor Heights to an existing team of nine cities in central Iowa, a resolution for an operating transfer of $600,000 from the General Basic Fund to the Capital Improvement Fund, a resolution to accept local city government and township budget certifications as presented, a resolution to abate mobile home taxes for a residence belonging to Dennis Draman in the amount of $899, and appointing Rachel Manna to the Opioid Settlement Committee and Jodie Hutzell Dymond to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
The board also heard 28 presentations from prequalified bidders for the Dallas County Courthouse renovation project and did not take formal action following the presentation. Finally, the board held workshops for Des Moines Area Community College and then they discussed meeting procedures and accessibility.
