As Greene County Development Corporation (GCDC) works through finding its new director and what that position will look like, the leader of that organization comments on how they are handling some current projects.
In the press release that was sent out earlier this month, GCDC President Scott Weber clarifies what was meant as their group was pausing their work on the Vision 2030 initiative, which is a comprehensive, long-term plan for projects to improve and attract more people to live, work and play in the county, which is led by the facilitator, Michelle Book.
“As this had gone on, we just decided, ‘You know what? Let’s just take a pause on that right now.’ Michelle Book is still helping us out, she’s still working in the background on things, and so she’s still gathering information and doing different things. And so, what we were only want to do as part of this Vision (2030) process is once we make that direction (of the director or) move that we’re going to head, we really want to hear from the Vision (2030) planning group as well on how we can see this moving forward and how this helps us out.”
Weber points out that he has also taken the lead on seeing the development of an incubator business, that is based in Carroll, get established in the GCDC East Business Park that is located next to Super 8 hotel along Highway 30. He says the business has several suites that can be rented to other start up companies until those businesses find another building or build their own place.
Since taking over as president, one of Weber’s main points he wanted to do was for GCDC to be more transparent and open to everyone about what GCDC does and is currently doing, which he feels like he is starting to see the impacts of that in the county.
“So there’s actually been a few people that have taken me up on that offer and attended meetings. We actually have a few new members that have just come on board recently. And so we are making good strides in that area. And I do hear from folks in the community that they appreciate the openness that we’ve had, and the communication, and how they feel like they can approach me in the public or out and about, and ask questions, and I’ll let them know exactly what’s going on.”
Weber encourages anyone who wants to know more about their organization to contact him about coming to a monthly meeting to check it out or to join as a member.
