
It was opening day for the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Baseball Team on Tuesday, as they dropped the first doubleheader of the season on the road against Southeast Polk.
The Tigers fell to the Rams 3-2 in the first game and 13-3 in six innings during the second contest. Raccoon Valley Radio broadcasted the later game, which the Tigers broke a scoreless game in the third inning, getting three runs to score with senior Cade Fisher, freshman Mason Entriken (who was courtesy running for senior Grant Jansen), and sophomore Talan Hansen to give ADM a 3-0 advantage versus Rams Starting Pitcher Chase Burke, who completed three innings, allowed seven hits, three runs, and struck out two batters.
Burke was replaced by junior Teague Cantrall, who pitched three innings, gave up two hits, struck out three, but did not allow a single run. Jansen was on the mound for the Tigers and kept the Rams without a run until the fifth inning, where Southeast Polk had a barrage of six consecutive runs come in under Jansen to lead 6-3. He would finish 5.2 innings with six hits, six runs, walked five batters, and struck out three.
Sophomore Cole Waddingham came in to relieve, giving up one run in the one inning he pitched, and freshman Ben Grife saw his first opportunity of the season, with 0.2 innings pitched, allowing two hits and six runs, as the Rams would get the 10-run rule to end the game in six innings.
Leading the way for Southeast Polk was Cantrall, who finished 3-3 at the plate with two RBI’s, while junior Maddox Bartling was 1-2 with a three-run RBI and scored two runs, junior Brayden Lewis went 0-1, but scored two runs on a walk and hit-by-pitch, then seniors Noah Trexel and Holden Hansen accounted for two runs a piece as well, with Jacob Worden, Ryker Kent, Kaden Hills, Landon Vander Werff, and Kane Brockman as the other contributors. For ADM, Jansen was 2-2 and Hansen was 2-3 with a two-run RBI single.
The Rams start the year at 2-0, while the Tigers fall to 0-2, but will be back in action today in a single game versus Harlan Community at 7pm in Adel. Raccoon Valley Radio will carry the broadcast on K107.9 KKRF, starting around 6:45pm.
