The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Baseball Team garnered their first win of the 2025 season at home with a dominant 9-0 victory over Harlan Community for Mother Appreciation Night on Wednesday.
The Tigers came into the game versus the Cyclones 0-2 after dropping the double header in Southeast Polk on Tuesday. ADM would jump on Harlan Community early as they were able to put up six runs in the bottom of the first inning to lead 6-0. The Tigers would add two more runs in the third inning and one more in the fifth to total nine runs. The offense for the Cyclones were unable to produce any runs as they left six runners on base.
Starting pitcher for ADM was senior Jaxson Book, who went a complete game of seven innings, allowed three hits, walked two batters, and struck out six. Head Coach Jason Book was proud of the work that his son did on the mound.
“He just did a really good job of being in the zone and commanding his fast ball. He threw a lot of fast balls and two seams (and) just kind of kept them off balance. Was in the zone enough that it was very effective for him. I don’t think he threw a breaking ball until about the sixth inning, so fast balls, change ups, and just pound the zone.”
On the other end for Harlan Community, junior Jonas Reynolds went four innings, allowed 12 hits, eight runs, and struck out three batters, while sophomore Joseph Gross pitched two innings, allowed two hits, one run, and struck out one batter.
Seven different Tiger players scored, including sophomore Alex Jensen who was 3-4 with two runs, and Jaxson who captured two runs on 2-4 from the plate. The Cyclones were led by Gross who went 2-3 on the night.
Harlan Community drops to 1-2 on the season, while ADM improves to 1-2 and will be back in action on Tuesday battling Dallas Center-Grimes in Adel.
