On Thursday the state track championships began at the Blue Oval at Drake Stadium as the Dallas Center-Grimes track teams found great success during day one.

Four relay teams would compete today as the Girls 4x100m shuttle hurdle team would place 18th in the preliminaries. The boys 4x110m shuttle hurdle relay would place eighth in the prelims with a time of 59.74. The boys 4×800 meter relay would place sixth and break a school record with a time of 7:45.35 with the girls 4x800m relay placing fourth.

In individual events, Piper Messerly would bring home the gold placing first in the girls 3000 meter run crossing the finish line in 9:52.08. Elias Arbuckle would place third in the boys 3200 meter run, and Madison Messerly would place fourth in high jump with a 5 feet four inch jump.

For the boys, Christopher Opoku-Sekyere would place 12th in high jump as one of only two freshman to qualify for state in long jump. Wyatt Valenta wraps up his sophomore season in 13th place in discuss, as Leighton Stanford would place 15th in the 400 meter dash to wrap up the results from day one for the Mustangs.
