Emma Ewalt

Greene County senior Emma Ewalt finished her high school discus throwing career with a sixth place finish on Friday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The Greene County graduated senior began the Class 2A State Meet competition with a toss of 123 feet, 11 inches, and although she had five more attempts, that first toss stood up as her best of the meet. She was also at State last year in the discus throw but this is the first time she’s earned a medal, and three points for the Greene County team. So far, those are the only points for Coach Derek Merk’s girls’ team, but junior Kaycee Pittman runs this morning in the 800 meters, so there’s still a chance to add to that point total.

The Rams had their distance medley relays in action on Friday as well as the 4 x 400 relay for boys. The girls quartet of sophomore Sarah Morlan, junior Addison Gannon, junior Becca Anderson, and Pittman were clocked in 4:19.14. They ran a season best time and placed thirteenth in the field of 24. The distance medley relay for boys also ran a season best of 3:37.17  with junior Broc Stream, sophomore Zach Stalder, senior Nick Stream, and junior Drew Wolterman, and they placed also placed thirteenth. In the 4 x 400 meter relay preliminary the foursome of Nick Stream, Broc Stream, senior Lane Fields, and Wolterman ran 3:30.38. That unit did not make today’s final field of eight and they were 21st overall.
