As Memorial Day draws closer, there will be several ceremonies across Greene County to commemorate the holiday.

St. Patrick’s Historical Church in northern Greene County is having an 8am mass service, followed by a military service at the St. Patrick’s Cemetery. The Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan is hosting a military program at 9:30am that will also include a performance by the Town and Country Band.

There are two programs in the city of Jefferson, with the first one taking place at 9:30am at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. The second one begins at 10:45am in the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery. Barb Labate, with the Jefferson American Legion Post #11, says Vice Commander Jim Andrew will open as the Master of Ceremonies, followed by the invocation, and then the Jefferson Fire Department will present the US Flag and the Lindsay “Medal of Honor” Flag.

Labate says the program continues with the playing of the “National Anthem” and the “March of the Armed Forces” by the Greene County High School Band, followed by this year’s American Legion Essay winner, fifth grader Lyndsie Goughnour, will recite her speech. Next, the Memorial Day Address will be delivered by Pastor Dennis Martens of the Trinity Lutheran Church, which will then be followed by the Salute to our Fallen Heroes, along with Taps and the Benediction.

Additionally, there are two services taking place at 11am at the Franklin Township Cemetery near Cooper and the Rippey Cemetery.
