For the first time in decades the Paton-Churdan Rockets have a boys’ track and field State Champion! Sophomore Trevon Keely won the Class 1A high jump on Friday at the Coed State Track & Field Championship inside Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Keely jumped six feet, eight inches to win the title after going 6′ 5″ as a freshman at State last year, finishing second. He tied his personal best in the event and was one inch higher than fellow sophomore Logan Blum of Woodbine, which, like P-C, is a Rolling Valley Activities Conference member.

The win was worth 10 points for P-C and they totaled 12 for the meet, again their highest State Meet total in a very long time. Keely scored two points on Thursday when he finished seventh in the long jump.

Keely’s coach is Kory Jeschke, who prior to joining the Rockets, had only coached track and field on the junior high/middle school level, so Keely is the first State Champion he’s coached.
