Johnathan Thompson of Grand Junction won two Gold medals May 22-24 for Team USA at the U15 Pan American Wrestling Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Wrestling at 38 kilograms (83.5 lbs.) Thompson placed first in Greco-Roman (upper body) wrestling on May 22, and followed that up with a first place finish in Freestyle wrestling on May 24.

He was dominant in both styles, going going 3-0 in Greco, with two technical falls and a 5-0 decision in the finals, before winning all four Freestyle matches by technical fall.

Team USA placed first in both styles of wrestling, wining the Greco-Roman team title over eight other teams with 225 points. Mexico was second with 154 and Puerto Rico third with 127 points. Team USA won the Freestyle title by 50 points over Puerto Rico, with Mexico third in a field of 11 nations.

Thompson recently completed eighth grade at Greene County Middle School, and he wrestles at Sebolt Academy in Jefferson.
