The future of track & field at Paton-Churdan High School is bright. Head coach Kory Jeschke leads both the girls and boys programs at one of the smaller public schools in Iowa. He told Raccoon Valley Radio there were no seniors on either squad and with recent Class 1A high jump State Champion Trevon Keely having two more seasons of high school and others around him, things are looking good.
Keely cleared the high jump bar at six feet, eight inches on Friday to become the first high school boy at P-C to win a State title since 1995 when Jeff Miller placed first in the 400 meter low hurdles. Danielle Hoyle won the 1A discus throw for girls in 2021. Keely also placed seventh last Thursday in the long jump, and he qualified for State in the 200 meter dash.
Coach Jeschke is looking forward to a group of eighth grade girls being freshmen next year. He said that group led the Junior High to a second place finish in the Rolling Valley Activities Conference earlier this month. The coach hopes several of the freshman boys show improvement in 2026 as sophomores.
