With National School Board Appreciation Month wrapping up, the Greene County School District Superintendent acknowledges the work that the five-member board does.

Superintendent Brett Abbotts tells Raccoon Valley Radio each school board member has a thankless job and he is truly happy with what they are doing for the betterment of the district.

“(I) Sincerely appreciate the work that they do to make sure that they are engaged in the processes that we have going on here at school, providing some vision and direction for our schools, and they’ve just been an absolute joy and honor to work alongside as we try to make Greene County Schools the best they could possibly be.”

Abbotts explains that at the May School Board meeting, a plaque was presented to recognize the Greene County School Board from the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB) for the 2023-24 school year for the Team Achievement Award. He notes that this was for the Board’s participation in ongoing learning opportunities through IASB that included visioning and direction setting, gaining knowledge on school budgets, along with setting, revising and re-creating board policies as needed, among others.

“Not too many school boards get this award or participate in that ongoing learning. I just think that kind of speaks volumes of the five people that are representing the people here of Greene County (School District) and the people that we have serving our district.”

Each School Board member received a certificate from Abbotts during the May School Board meeting. The Board includes President Cindi Daubendiek, Vice President Michelle Fields, along with board members Bonnie Silbaugh, Tim Riphagen, and Connie Boyd.
