Alaina Heard dazzles in complete game, seven strikeout winner for Greene County Tuesday in Perry, 3-1.
The opening night for Perry and Greene County softball featured a pitchers duel that was scoreless until the sixth. Perry’s Tina Kanealy was working on a shutout until back to back bunt singles by the top of the Rams’ lineup, Payton Kokenge and Kaycee Pittman. Sacrifice bunts from Sara Morelan and Alivya Smith would bring home both girls as Greene County took a 2-0 lead.
The Jayettes would answer immediately in the bottom half of the inning. A Cate Erickson infield single, two wild pitches, and an error would bring home the lone Perry run.
A Greene County insurance run would secure the Heart of Iowa clash for the visiting Rams, 3-1.
Heard struckout seven, walked four, scattered two hits and surrounded no earned runs in the complete game.
Kanealy suffers the loss pitching all seven innings with nine hits and three runs.
Cate Erickson had both Perry hits.
The Jayettes fall to 0-1 while the Rams open 1-0. Tonight’s game against Roland-Story has been postponed with Perry not having enough girls to field a team. They will return to action Friday hosting Saydel.
