Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds made her second stop yesterday in the KKRF 107.9FM listening area in the span of a week.
Reynolds was at the Guthrie County Hospital to sign into law House File 972 and House File 310, both of which are in regards to the health care field. House File 972, or the Rural Health Care Bill, was proposed by the Governor at the start of the 2025 Legislative session, and was something personally overseen by Panora native and Representative for House District 47 Carter Nordman, who was the Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. The new law would increase residency capacities at institutions that provide them and to fund a start-up cost for the building of a residency program, as well as adding to the loan repayment system for health care workers.
Reynolds shared why it was important to get these two bills signed into law.
“Just three to four years from now, the amount of time that it takes for a typical residency rotation, we could have up to 460 more physicians being trained right here in Iowa with some ready to enter the workforce. And we’re going to be ready for them.”
Reynolds added that House File 310 works to protect all health care workers from workplace violence, expanding on legislation passed previously.
