The Stuart People Active for Library Service (PALS) will be hosting a speaker from Humanities Iowa on Saturday.

PALS Members Carol Brewer and Kathy Johnson say that John Liepa will be giving his presentation, “Iowa’s Ethnic Heritage: Who Do You Think You Are?,” going over how the Iowa we know today, came to be settled. Johnson shares with Raccoon Valley Radio some of what Liepa will cover.

“John will unfold the changing adventure of Iowa’s immigration history, beginning with the Ioway, one of the 17 distinctive indigenous tribal groups, then tracing chronologically who we are as Iowans. John will interact with the audience as he talks about the Spanish explorers and French trappers, traders, and priests, to the dominant English, Germans, and Irish, to the Scandinavians, Dutch and Czechs, exploring why they chose to leave their homelands and how these groups eventually ended up here in Iowa.”

Brewer mentions that Liepa will be at the Stuart Public Library on Saturday, and will begin his presentation at 10am. The event is free and open to the public.
