Coach Tom Kennedy’s Greene County High School softball team plays at Nevada tonight in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams take a 1-1 record to Story County with a 3-1 win at Perry and a 7-0 home loss to Class 3A fifth ranked PCM (Monroe) so far this week.
So far the defense has stood out for the Rams. Greene County began the season with just one error at Perry and followed that up with a single error vs. the Mustangs. Coach Kennedy told Raccoon Valley Radio he can’t remember any of his previous 18 teams with as much depth as this one has. The coach has several players on the infield that can confidently play at more than one position, and he feels like he has no less than five very capable outfielders. Sophomore Alaina Heard and sophomore Makenna Ebersole make up the pitcher-catcher battery.
After tonight’s game in Nevada, it’s a shorter trip east for the Rams as they’ll be in the Ogden Tournament tomorrow.
