After a season opening 4-0 loss in Jefferson on Wednesday night to PCM (Monroe), Greene County went to the southeast side of Des Moines on Thursday and faced Grand View Christian in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball. In the words of the late baseball great Yogi Berra, “It was deja vu all over again” because the Rams lost 4-0 for the second straight night. The Thunder improved to 1-1 while the Rams are 0-2 and looking for their first run scored. Greene County has seven seniors on its roster while the Thunder has just two, plus four eighth graders and four freshmen, on its 23 person roster.
Head coach Kyle Stalder told Raccoon Valley Radio the Thunder scored all four runs in the first inning. Junior Teagan Chisholm took the pitching loss and the coach said after a rough first inning with some control issues, Chisholm settled in. The Thunder had just two hits, but the Rams managed just one.
The Rams play another HOIAC contest tonight at Nevada. The Cubs are 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Heart of Iowa coming off their first loss, a 6-5 setback in Carroll to the Tigers last night.
