A non-profit organization is co-hosting an event in Jefferson tomorrow that will help less fortunate people.

Iowa Public Relations Coordinator for Midwest Mission Danille Curtis says First United Methodist Church in Jefferson is conducting a Rice and Soy Blessing Bag Event in partnership with their organization at their location, 219 North Chestnut Street. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio from noon-2pm volunteers will package rice, soy, vitamins and vegetables that will help meet the nutritional needs of those that receive them. Curtis states that with the recent funding cuts, schools and nonprofits across the globe are struggling now more than ever with hunger and that these Blessing Bags are often the only food an individual gets for an entire day.

Curtis points out this year, Midwest Mission has a goal of 200,000 Rice and Soy Blessing Bags to send to food insecurity areas of the world. She is inviting anyone who would like to be part of this effort to contact her at 515-386-2236. She adds that walk-ins are welcomed but contacting beforehand is appreciated.
