Busy night at the Perry Athletic Complex with Saydel coming to town for softball and baseball action. Baseball will feature a twin bill of varsity action beginning at 5:15P and softball will start at 7P.
The Jayettes are looking for their first win after falling in the opener on Tuesday to Greene County. Perry managed just two hits both from Cate Erickson. Emma Olejniczak is happy to have three returning all conference players at the top of the order. Despite the lack of experience with the bottom of the order, the first year coach wants everyone to be ready to contribute.
“Top half of our lineup is looking strong, but we’ve also really been working on filling in that bottom half of our lineup and really having that mentality that being 7-8-9 is not just ugh… I’m 7-8-9. They’re really embracing their roles. Trying to turn it over to get it back to the top of our lineup to our best players.”
The two clubs split the series in 2024 with the visitor coming away with the victory. The Eagles enter 0-2 while the Jayettes are 0-1.
Progressive Field will see a double header tonight. Saydel just swept the preseason Heart of Iowa Conference favorite West Marshall on Wednesday winning 8-0 and 4-3. Perry is still searching for their first win after falling on Wednesday to West Central Valley, 10-5.
The offense is struggling with averaging under two runs a game, but Geren Kenney is red hot for the 0-4 Bluejays. The senior is hitting .571 to lead the club. No one threw over 40 pitches on Wednesday so Coach Michael Craig should have his full contingent of pitchers for tonight’s 14 innings. He will need all hands on deck against a team averaging just under five runs a game.
Perry baseball and softball both hosting Saydel tonight.
