A Perry Elementary teacher was a recipient of a special honor during the 2025 Annual Perry School District Staff Years of Service Awards on Wednesday.
According to the Retiring Director of Teaching and Learning Kevin Vidergar, 34 teachers total were given awards for their years of service ranging from five to 30 years. The featured highlight was when Vidergar presented Fourth Grade Teacher Elizabeth Marburger with the Rotary Teacher of the Year Award. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that it was a powerful moment for him to have the opportunity to celebrate Marburger’s dedication over the 18 years she’s been with the school district. Vidergar outlines that she exemplifies the qualities of being a true team leader, as she is never afraid to step in to assist students or staff.
“Elizabeth means the world to the district and to Perry Elementary in particular. She is rock steady with her instruction, her teaching and guiding both students and all the teachers that she works with, whether they be veteran teachers on her team, brand new teachers to her team, other teachers that are not necessarily on her team, but she comes in contact with across the building. Just incredible, amazing dedication and passion for ensuring that all of our kids are going to learn at the highest level possible.”
In addition, Vidergar received the award for Friend to Iowa Decathlon from high school Teachers Teresa Kresse and Lisa Schumacher, who have led the Decathlon Team for many years. He mentions that the award acknowledges the support and contributions he’s provided for the team’s competitions. Vidergar is retiring after 12 years in his position at the end of June, as he confirms he has 34 years of teaching experience overall.
