The city of Jefferson is reminding everyone to make sure to remove non-permanent items from the two cemeteries that are within city limits.

City Administrator Scott Peterson says as part of the city code, all non-permanent items must be removed from the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery and the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery by June 10th. He explains why this is necessary to do, following the Memorial Day holiday.

“It does need to be done in order to continue to maintain the cemetery in a way that people should become accustomed to. We want them to always have a good looking cemetery out there, properly mowed (and) trimmed. Again, our staff, I think, does a fantastic job at that and folks can help us out with that by removing their grave decorations.”

Items that must be removed are anything that is not contained in a permanent vase, otherwise city crews will remove those items for you.
