On Tuesday, the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs traveled to Ames for the Class 2A state quarterfinals to face off against the Pella Dutch. The Mustangs would come out firing on all cylinders, shutting out the Dutch 5-0 to advance to the semifinals on Thursday.

The Mustangs would attack from the whistle, notching in three goals in the first half to take a commanding 3-0 lead going into the halftime break. Alexa Gill would have an incredible solo goal, curving the shot into the hands of Pella’s keeper Holland, who could not hang on as Gills shot would cross the goal line. Coming back from the break, Alexandra Hofbauer would score off a penalty kick, with the final goal coming from sophomore Addy Lane, scoring the final goal to advance DCG to the semifinals.

The Mustangs return to Ames on Thursday to Lied Recreational Field for Class 2A state soccer semifinals. The Mustangs face off against the Xavier Saints at 2:45pm with the winner advancing to the championships on Saturday. Coverage begins on KDLS at 2:15pm.
