The month of June is an important one for those looking to participate in the Iowa State Fair in August, or the Guthrie County Fair over the Labor Day weekend.
Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Youth Coordinator Rachel Muir says that there are some deadlines for 4-H members that they need to keep in mind. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio about what is the most important deadline.
“For anyone that is wanting to participate in the Iowa State Fair or Guthrie County Fair, State Fair entry is due on July 1st for livestock and horticulture events, as well as July 1st is the deadline for our static and communications events (at the Guthrie County Fair).”
Muir mentions that for those planning on exhibiting livestock at the Guthrie County Fair, 4-H’ers must have proof of completing the Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) course, which is due to the Extension Office in Guthrie Center by the end of the day on June 15th. She adds that the last big deadline for the Guthrie County Fair is August 1st, when registration for livestock and horticulture events is due.
