A four run first and fourth doomed Perry in Wednesday’s Heart of Iowa match up with Nevada at Progressive Field, 10-4.
The first inning has been a problem for Perry pitching in 2025. The Bluejays have surrendered runs in the opposing teams first at bat in seven of eight games this season. The Cubs put four on the board in the opening frame. Perry answered with one of their own. The game sat 4-1 at the end of the third. Nevada added to their lead with four more in the fourth. The Bluejays scratched across one in the bottom of the inning to make it 8-2. A two run sixth for Nevada and Perry scored two in the seventh to get us to 10-4.
Owen Myers, Mason Hayes, and Gauge Freeman each collected two hits. Myers and Hayes each had a double. Myers legged out a triple while Hayes hit a homerun.
Myers suffered the loss. The senior went four innings giving up seven hits, five earned runs (eight total), while walking two and striking out three.
Jackson Burlage earned the win in five innings of work. The Cub scattered eight hits, two runs, five walks, and struck out one.
