
Defense let Perry down in 5-3 loss in Jewell against South Hamilton Friday night in conference play.
The Bluejays pushed one across the plate in the first for the early lead. The Hawks took the lead in the second and added on in the third with two unearned runs in each inning. Perry rallied for two in the seventh to cut the game to 5-3.
Mason Hayes takes the loss despite a strong performance. The freshman went five innings, struck out nine, walked two, and surrendered four runs all unearned.
Owen Myers had two hits and three stolen bases. The senior also had an RBI. Reid Iben drove in one on a base hit.
Perry falls to 0-10 and 0-5 in the Heart of Iowa competitions. They play Monday hosting Grand View Christian a game that will air on KDLS.
