The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Softball Team snapped a two-game losing streak as they garnered a 2-1 victory over Van Meter in eight innings on Friday in Adel.
The ninth ranked Tigers in Class 4A fell behind to the first-ranked Bulldogs out of Class 2A, when freshman Mady Schnell hit a solo home run out deep to right field in the top of the second inning to give Van Meter the early 1-0 lead. Good defense would persist and ADM sophomore pitcher Makenna Pitlick got out of a sticky situation when bases were loaded in the top of the fourth with one out. She responded by getting a strikeout to senior Alice Ruggles and a ground out to sophomore Jilly Wosmanksy to keep the deficit at one run.
In the fifth inning, Tiger senior Aniston Tollari led off with a single, then advanced to second base with a sacrifice bunt from freshman Elliotte Von Roden, then stole third, before junior Lauren Hagedorn had a sac bunt to score Tollari for the game-tying run at 1-1. She was 2-3 in the game. The game would need extra innings, as the bottom of the eighth saw Hagedorn get a lead off single, followed by a single from sophomore Kinzie Maxwell, who was 3-4 in the game, then an intentional walk to senior Madi James, before senior Kennedy Stanford hit the walk off single to right to give ADM the 2-1 win.
The winning pitcher was the Tiger’s Pitlick, who went four innings, allowed one hit, one run, walked five batters and struck out two. Freshman Chloe Olthoff chipped in going four innings and allowed three hits. Losing pitcher was the Bulldogs Wosmanksy, who went all eight innings, allowed 10 hits, two runs, walked one batter, and had three strikeouts.
Van Meter falls to 9-2 and will be playing in the Paul and Mary Ann Graves Classic today in Perry, while ADM is now 5-4 and is off for the weekend before returning for a conference double header versus Bondurant-Farrar on Monday.
