Alexandra Hofbauer put the Mustangs on her back on Saturday, scoring in double overtime against Waverly-Shell Rock in the Class 2A girls state soccer championships. Hofbauer would score in the 94th minute to defeat the Go-Hawks 1-0 making the Mustangs the Class 2A state champions.
Both teams would refuse to quit as 80 minutes of regulation would not be enough for both teams. The first ten minutes of overtime would end scoreless as well, with DCG to kick off for the start of the second half of overtime. With five minutes left in the 94th minute, Alexandra Hofbauer would tap in a goal in sudden death to give the Mustangs their fourth straight title.
DCG girls soccer end the season with a 15-4-1 record to secure the Class 2A state championship for the fourth year in a row, in their fifth visit in a row to the state championships.
