The Adel Public Library is now in the midst of the 2025 summer reading program.
According to Patron Services Librarian Amy Puck, people of all ages can participate by reading an allotted amount of time and marking it off on the tracking sheet. She says that children from birth to three years old need to read for 10 minutes, those 4-17 years of age will read for 45 minutes, and 18 plus reads for an hour a day. Pucks details that along the way, youth from 4-11 years old can acquire collector cards and teens and adults qualify for raffle tickets that will put them in a drawing for a grand prize. Programming Specialist Lily Schwarz reveals the theme is “Level Up,” as she discusses some of her favorite games growing up.
“I love rummy cube, I used to play it with my grandma a lot. And then I love the Zelda games, but especially the ones that are on the (Nintendo) Switch, so Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I played Minecraft when I was a kid, (so) I was really pumped to see this theme come through because I feel like there’s something for everyone in it.”
Puck explains that each person that completes the summer reading program will receive a free book as a gift, while also submitting their sheet to earn a ticket to the pool party that is happening on August 1st. She announces that people have until the end of July to complete their reading. Puck hopes to see many people engage in the summer reading program and mentions that tracking sheets can be picked up at the Adel Public Library during regular business hours.
