The deadline is fast approaching to apply to be this year’s Greene County Fair Queen.

Organizer Katlynn Mechaelsen says some of the criteria to be eligible to apply includes all females must be between 16 and 21 years old, the contestant must not be married, or married before and not have any children. She states that the applicant must reside in the county and have a majority of their activities be within the county. Mechaelsen believes the Fair Queen Contest provides several opportunities for real world experiences and improving life skills.

“I think it’s a great stepping stone for young women to get in front of a crowd, gain some self-confidence, get some real life experiences as far as job interviews. Because they do have to go through a couple of interviews, they do an individual interview, they do a group interview, and then they do a radio interview that they get judged on. Just how they hold themselves, how they present themselves, their self-confidence in each other, (and) it really shines through and it really matures one another.”
