There are only a few spots left for some of the Summer Day Camps and 4-H Project Workshops for youth to get involved in Greene County, while on break from school.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says there are some availability with two Summer Day Camps, including the Night Hike on Friday from 9-10pm at Squirrel Hollow Park for $5 per family and on June 19th for 4th-8th graders doing an Invent STEM Camp from 10am-2pm at the Extension Office in Jefferson. She talks about who these Summer Day Camps are intended for.

“They are open to anybody (in) Greene County, outside of Greene County, it doesn’t matter. They don’t have to be in 4-H, any youth can come sign up. So, we have a lot of grandparents who have kids in the summer that their grandkids come and join us for a couple of programs in the summer. Or you can just be local to Greene County joining us.”

Hardaway points out there are a few more 4-H Project Workshops available, including June 16th-18th with advanced photography, fishing lore and jig painting and salsa making, respectively. The fees for those are $5 for advanced photography, $10 for making fish lore and jig painting and $25 for salsa making. The other 4-H Project Workshop that has space left is on July 1st with a thrifty meal challenge for $10. Hardaway explains why these are important for 4-H’ers to do.

“And those are for youth that are in 4-H and want to learn about a project area or complete a project to bring to the Greene County Fair.”
