
On Monday the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs baseball and softball teams traveled to Newton to face off against the Cardinals. The Mustang baseball team would defeat Newton 11-1 while the Fillies would shut out the Cardinals 17-0.
Cross Bandy would get the starting nod for the Mustangs and would have a stellar performance on both sides of the ball, pitching five complete innings only allowing one run while going two for three in the box with a triple in the first, a sacrifice fly to score Caethan Stocker and a single in the seventh ending the night with two RBIs. Jackson Seidl would close out the game on the mound for DCG, pitching two innings, allowing only one hit with one strike out and one walk in the 11-1 victory over Newton.
For the girls, an incredible pitching performance by Tessa Jones and a big fourth inning would push the Fillies to a 17-0 shut out victory over the Cardinals. Jones would pitch the entire game for four innings, notching in 10 strike outs and only gave up three hits while walking only one. The Fillies would lead Newton 4-0 in the top of the fourth and would comes out to score 13 runs in the fourth to enforce the mercy rule against the Cardinals. The Fillies remain undefeated after shutting out Newton 17-0.
The Mustang boys advance to 8-4 while the Fillies remain undefeated at 14-0. Both teams return on the road on Wednesday to face off against the Warriors in Norwalk for double header action. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm for baseball and 5:30pm for softball with the second games to follow. Coverage for Fillies softball will begin on KDLS2 at 5:15pm.
