The AC/GC Chargers traveled to Madrid last night, with the baseball team winning their game 17-12 and the softball team winning their first game of the season 11-2.

According to Chargers Softball Head Coach Tyler Merical, Jayla Hoover pitched all six innings for the team, and only gave up one earned run. He adds that Kailee Kautzky had a great showing at the plate, racking up a single, a double and two runs batted in, while also taking a chance to steal home for a score. Caydence Boals was able to draw three walks, and scored twice for the team.

In the baseball game, both teams started out scoreless after the first, but the Chargers racked up 9 runs in the second, while the Tigers only picked up three. AC/GC picked up another run in the third inning, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the seventh inning, while Madrid tallied one run in the fourth inning, one in the fifth, six in the sixth and one in the seventh. Blaize Dorsey started on the mound for the Chargers, pitching into the sixth inning.

Tommy Skram had two single base hits and three RBIs, while Will Skram secured two singles and two RBIs. Chase Slaybaugh recorded two RBIs and two singles, with one coming from an error. Ben Franzeen had one RBI with a single and a double, while Noah Kading secured two RBIs on two singles. The Chargers were walked a total of 14 times. The baseball team returns to action tonight, as they host Glidden-Ralston with varsity action to begin at 7pm.
