The South Grimmell Road Bridge is back open in Jefferson!
Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss tells Raccoon Valley Radio the bridge was just recently opened late Wednesday morning. The delay from opening earlier in the month was due to some equipment that was needed to complete the project. However, Weiss notes the project is done and county crews have installed the pavement markings and people can now use it again. He appreciates everyone’s patience during the construction process.
The replacement project started this past fall, after the Greene County Supervisors approved the $2,088,062 contract to Godobersen-Smith Construction Company in July of 2024. A grant with the Iowa Department of Transportation City Bridge Funds paid $1.5 million through the city of Jefferson toward the total cost of the project, with the County paying for the rest.
