Construction is already underway for the new Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School in Dallas County, as a ceremonial event took place on Wednesday.

The ADM School Board has been discussing the plan of opening a new high school in a few years with the expansion of the three communities within the district. On Wednesday, several members representing the district were in attendance to start the groundbreaking process. Board President Tim Canney gave opening remarks, and stated that his wife and he graduated from the district, as well as his children. He explained that the bond issue for the new high school passed with an 80 percent vote in November of 2023.

Next, Stahl Construction Superintendent Christian McNiel addressed the audience and expressed his excitement to be the leading contractor for the construction of the school, and emphasized that it’s been great working alongside the ADM School District because the environment has been so welcoming.

The final speaker was ADM Superintendent Greg Dufoe who laid out that the building will be over 180,000 square feet and will cost more than $60 million, as that will be the biggest project to date in the district. He described how grateful he was to the ADM School Board, the Administration, and the City of Adel for their hand in the process. Many future high school students were apart of the ceremony, and Dufoe is extremely passionate about bringing them a new facility.

“The kids, you’re really the reason why we’re here. You represent everybody who will load into this high school. It really fires us up to bring this beautiful, modern facility, and when you come back and you walk in these doors here in a couple of years, it’s going to knock all of our socks off, and so I can’t wait to see that.”

Dufoe noted that the project is being worked on by Stahl Construction, FRK Architects and Engineers, and Sandstone Management. He adds the proposed timeline will put the district on track to open the new high school in the fall of 2027.
