The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Office in Dallas County will be holding a program revolving around the planting season on Tuesday.

According to Fair Intern Kylee Chesterman, people of all ages will be able to join two specialists at the Des Moines Area Community College County Farm, 25747 N Avenue, in Adel to learn about rotational grazing, weed control, fertility and soil sampling, managing livestock traffic, plus water and fencing. Chesterman says that she is a student at DMACC in the Agricultural Business program and that ISU Extension Field Agronomist Meaghan Anderson and Extension Beef Specialist Chris Clark lead the program. Anderson reveals that this program will serve as a great opportunity to see all the great work that DMACC is doing.

“They produce quite a bit of cover crop that they’re using in some cases for livestock feed, and in other cases they’re actually using it for weed management on their farm. And so they’re able to get some good grazing or even harvesting out of that cover crop for feed to use later. They have alfalfa out there and then they’ve also got a substantial amount of pasture.”

Chesterman details that the program is free to attend, but registration is required and can do so until spots are filled. The program is taking place from 5:30-7:30pm on Tuesday. You can sign up by clicking here.
