The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.

The Board approved two student driving permits for Carter McCullum and Rylin Hostetler, three fundraiser requests as presented, and the July regular board meeting was moved to Monday, July 7th at 5:15pm, due to the second Wednesday happening during the Greene County Fair. The Board also approved some changes to the employee handbook. Superintendent Brett Abbotts outlined one of the changes was when to post open positions, which was adjusted to three days or at the superintendent’s discretion.

The other change was eliminating the formal observation process that building administrators do with classroom teachers. It was mentioned that there is a several step process where teachers are required to be observed four times per school year and that the teachers know when those dates are. It was stated that teachers would prepare for those dates and do extra things. The Board approved to install three informal observations that would be unannounced throughout the school year. This would allow for a more true testament of how a teacher works with students on a more regular basis.

Additionally, the Board approved to purchase 92 Clevertouch displays from Bluum for $140,598 and use Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) funds. They also approved a resolution to participate in the storm protection fund for $35,838 to pay down the deductible rate on the property insurance, renewing the service agreement with Region XII Western Iowa Transit Systems, contracts for transfer of state funding for special education services to change from Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency to Heartland AEA, the teacher leader contracts for 14 staff as presented, and the 2025-26 school year agreement with the Thrive Academy, formerly North Central Consortium School for $55,000.
