The Winterset Huskies Baseball Team used a strong sixth inning to advance to their ninth win of the season on the road versus the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Tigers on Wednesday, winning 7-4.

Despite the loss, ADM jumped on the board first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runs with senior Grant Jansen and sophomore Hudson Lewerke to take a 2-0 lead. However, in the top of the third inning, Winterset responded by getting three runs across to give them a 3-2 advantage. The score would remain until the bottom of the fifth inning, when sophomore Alex Jensen and senior Jaxson Book came in to put the Tigers back on top 4-3.

The Huskies’ sixth inning was the difference maker as four different players of senior Carson Dinkla, senior Josiah Hornback, junior Drake McDonald, and sophomore Carson Cook came in to give Winterset a commanding 7-4 lead. ADM unfortunately was not able to capture more runs, as that would go on to be the final score.

Dinkla led the way for the Huskies, going 2-4 and scored two runs, while the Tigers were charged by Jansen, who went 1-2, garnering one run. Winning pitcher was Winterset’s junior Reed Smith, who went all seven innings, allowed six hits, four runs, and struck out six batters. ADM sophomore Ben Plaisance pitched 5.2 innings, allowed eight hits, seven runs, and had four strikeouts. Junior Cael Stanford went 1.1 innings, allowed a hit, and got one strikeout.

The Huskies improve to 9-6 overall (3-2 inside the Raccoon River Conference) as they will host Carroll today. The Tigers are now 5-10 overall (1-5 RRC) and are traveling to Alleman tonight for a single game against North Polk, starting at 7pm.
