
The scheduled starting time for Perry at Greene County high school softball was moved up to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday due to possible weather issues that did not materialize in Jefferson.
The Rams won the game 4-0 to improve to 6-5 overall and 5-3 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference while Perry fell to 3-5 on the season and also in the Heart of Iowa. The action was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams were 3-1 winners in Perry on May 27 to begin the season and Wednesday’s game completed the two game conference sweep. Alaina Heard threw a complete game two hit shutout with four strikeouts and two walks. She retired the last 10 batters she faced and eight were via the ground ball. The Rams played errorless defense behind their pitcher.
The Rams had nine hits, all singles by eight players. Senior Payton Kokenge had two singles and those with one hits were senior Chanlyn Cunningham, juniors Becca Anderson and Kaycee Pittman, plus sophomores Sara Morlan, Bellah Johnson, Makenna Ebersole, and Alivya Smith. Morlan drove in two runs with one RBI each for Ebersole and Smith.
Perry’s defense executed three double plays, two in the air and one on the ground. The Jayettes were charged with just one error.
The Rams play at Woodward-Granger tonight in JV/varsity softball before getting back home and in the HOIAC on Friday vs. Grand View Christian (Des Moines).
