The Perry Summer Swim team is off to a fast start through the first two weeks of the season.

Sophia McDevitt returns as the head coach.  The 2024 Perry graduate has teamed up with her younger sister Maddie, who just wrapped up her junior year at Perry.  The two girls look at their age as beneficial.

“Everything varies and there’s no right or wrong thing, but sometimes it can be nice to be a little closer in age to the kids cuz you still understand how they are and what they’re experiencing.”

The Perry Summer Swim team has over 60 kids on it ranging from 5 to 17 years old.  The first week of competitions saw Perry take down Guthrie County for the first time in program history.

Home meets are swam at the McCreary Center and take place on Tuesday and Thursday nights.  Sophia encourages the community to join the team.

“We would love to have you and we enjoy our team growing and changing every year and there’s never anyone who can’t swim, it’s just you need to learn.”

The regular season continues next week.  The conference meet is scheduled for July 12.
