
The Stuart City Council met in regular session Monday night.
The Council set the 2026 Town Clean Up days for April 24th and 25th, heard from Stuart Police Chief Dave Reha on renewing the School Resource Officer contract with West Central Valley School District for a five year term, and include the four percent increase for benefits and salary, along with discussed employee retention in the department. No action was taken on either item.
The Council then approved looking for both a streets superintendent and wastewater manager instead of a public works director which combines both positions, have the individual hired live within 15 minutes of Stuart, and will start them with a similar wage to current Public Works Director Jim Henderson. They also approved having the compliance officer and the resident at 104 Northeast 4th Street work together to resolve the nuisances on the property, and the Hotel/Motel Committee recommendation.
The Council also approved a resolution for cigarette permits for the fiscal year starting July 1st and ending June 30, 2026, swim passes for Stuart Fire Department volunteer firefighters, sidewalk waivers and a partial payment to McAninch Corporation for $117,182.40, both in regards to the Wambold Phase Three Housing project. They also approved an ordinance amending the code regarding agricultural-commercial zoning, tabled a decision on city employee wages for 2025-26, and approved a Tax Increment Financing application from Duncan Construction for 100 Northwest 2nd Street, a letter of commitment or the same address for Duncan Construction to apply for a Community Catalyst Remediation Grant, and severance of the retention pond from All Saints Lot 33 along with installation of a sidewalk to try and encourage a buyer to purchase the property.
