A severe thunderstorm brought lots of rain and moderately strong winds across portions of the Raccoon Valley Radio area.

According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Greene County and northwestern Guthrie County at 7:03pm Monday night. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team then took the airwaves to bring live coverage of the storms. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams and Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeremy Cooper both reported 50 miles per hour winds at the peak of the thunderstorm with lots of rainfall.

The warning was allowed to expire at 8pm. Also during the storm, there was a power outage at our sister station in Perry that impacted all three stations. However, the stations were back on the air via backup generator power. There were three RVR staff, along with Weatherology Meteorologists, Greene County Sheriff and Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator that provided coverage. Anytime there is a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning issued for Greene, Guthrie or Dallas Counties, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team will provide live coverage until the storm drops below severe levels or they move out of the coverage area.
