With the summer months started, there are a couple of familiar faces at Adair County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach that are participating in a new role.
Extension Summer Assistants Sophie Dorsey and Delaney Blomme are helping out with many things at the office, including their library programs and some youth programs. Dorsey tells Raccoon Valley Radio why she wanted to be a summer assistant for the Extension Office in Greenfield.
“I kind of just thought this would be a good way to give back to Adair County because this is the county I grew up in and I was in 4-H for nine years. Just being able to give back to this county was really good. And I also thought it’d be kind of a good way to meet new people and kind of see a different side of the ag industry and like, what goes into fairs, and all that kind of stuff.”

Blomme also shares what drew her to become a summer assistant.
“I think one of the largest things that had me interested was I’m also involved in our Adair County Youth Council which is like our 4-H organization and we all kind of are in charge of everything around here. And I was helping with an event and Terri and Caroline were kind of telling me about how they were looking for help this summer, and I figured it would be kind of fun to give it a shot because I want to go to school for Ag Media and I thought maybe this would kind of touch on some of the parts that I might enjoy and then I might be able to figure out what I enjoy or don’t enjoy with this side of like the Ag industry.”
Both Blomme and Dorsey have been longtime members of 4-H in Adair County, and are looking forward to helping teach and be role models for the youth of the county through the different summer programs they will be helping with.
