An international company is coming to Minburn tomorrow to reveal a special piece of artwork with a ceremony.
According to Minburn Community Betterment Group Member Megan Cline, the Canadian-based company Global Roots works on mural mosaic projects all over the world, and selected Minburn as the first city in Iowa for a display that’s part of the America Connects Nature’s Bloom Production. She acknowledges that she saw an advertisement online in December of 2024 to put up a mural, and submitted an application for Minburn, which was approved.
Cline describes the mural as 12 feet high by 24 feet wide that features over 2,500 individual tiles that have designs on them, and then the mural showcases a bigger picture when viewed from a distance. She says it’s wonderful that Minburn is being recognized for an iconic display.
“It is extremely special, and I didn’t really understand the impact until I saw the art on the wall as I was helping install it. It is so vibrant and if you were to stand there, you can see it from afar (and) it is a picture. As you approach it, you start realizing that it’s broken down into smaller, individual pictures and images. I saw people’s pets, wildlife, flowers, anything that you can imagine is on this. You can spend hours just looking at and finding all of these things.”
Cline indicates that the mural artist Lewis Lavoie added his own personal touches, including unique items about Minburn. She invites people out to a public unveiling of the mosaic mural that’s taking place tomorrow morning at 11am at Meek Park, across from the Minburn Fire Department.
