There are several Greene County road and bridge projects currently underway.
Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss says the crushing of the current pavement on County Road P-46 from County Road E-18 south to County Road E-26 is done and now crews are paving the northbound lane only starting from E-26 and ending at E-18. He notes that crushing of the current concrete on another road project for County Road E-18 from Iowa Highway 144 to the Boone County line is also completed, but due to bad materials underneath the roadway, additional work was needed before paving can begin.
Weiss reminds everyone of how these projects are being funded as well as the reason behind why these replacements are happening was due to when the windmills were installed by MidAmerican Energy.
“They’re all in a TIF District, so they’re being funded through the windmill property Tax Increment Financing program. And yes, a lot of damage had occurred during the construction (of the windmills) and we’re getting that repaired.”
The final road project that Weiss points out is underway with the crushing of the existing concrete process is on County Road P-29 for 1.5 miles north to the Greene and Webster County line. He states that crews have started from the county line and are moving south. Weiss says once the contractor is done paving County E-18, then they will move to the P-29 project. He adds that this project is being paid for through farm-to-market funds.
Weiss notes one bridge project that started last year is finished on the South Grimmell Road bridge in Jefferson, and the other bridge replacement project is in Ralston. He says the bridge deck was poured and guardrails were being installed on the structure on Apple Avenue.
