
Heart of Iowa Activities Conference high school baseball was played yesterday afternoon at Principal Park in Des Moines, the home of the AAA Iowa Cubs. Perry hosted Greene County in a 3 p.m. start that saw the Blue Jays win by a 5-4 score.
The Rams led 3-0 early before the Blue Jays scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 3-2 game. The Rams scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh for a 4-2 lead, but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Jays scored three times in the bottom of the frame to win for the third time this season, and the second over Greene County. Perry is 3-7 in the conference and 3-14 overall while the Rams have now lost eight in a row and stand at 1-10, 1-9.
Crew Conner took the loss while pitching all 6-1/3 innings. The five runs he allowed were earned on 10 hits and three walks. Conner struck out two batters and the Rams were charged with two errors.
The Rams had nine hits with Conner collecting a triple and two singles, and two runs batted in. The other six hits for Greene County were two singles by Isaac Carman, and one base hit from Nathan Towers, Camden Jacobs, Jaron Jacobs, Noah Hinote, Jaron Jacobs and Lane Fields each drove in a run.
The Rams are off today before playing PCM (Monroe) on Wednesday night at the Elementary School in Prairie City.
