A Scranton man was recently sentenced to probation following several physical altercations in December of 2024.

According to court documents, 24-year-old Kolbe Hunter pled guilty to four amended charges, including three serious misdemeanors for assault on a peace officer and another serious misdemeanor for assault causing bodily injury. As per the plea agreement, Hunter had four consecutive one year jail sentences suspended and was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.

The charges stemmed from several assaults that happened near Scranton on December 19th. Court documents show Hunter threatened and chased a victim with a knife. Law enforcement used tasers on him a few different times until Hunter was subdued and dropped the knife.

Court documents show that Hunter was ordered to pay over $2,000 in fines, surcharges, and court-appointed attorney fees. As per the plea agreement, Hunter had two aggravated misdemeanors for assault with a dangerous weapon and two aggravated misdemeanors for first degree harassment dismissed, and the charges that Hunter pled guilty to were amended from the original Class D Felony charges.
