The Greene County Farmers Market kicked off the 2025 season in a new location.

Jefferson Matters Ambassadors were on-hand for a ribbon cutting that took place to usher in a new year for the local farmers market and due to the soggy weather conditions, everything was held inside the north hall. Manager Jean Walker said the building was full of vendors and eager customers checking out items that were locally grown and produced. She noted that the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association was also on-hand to serve a fundraising meal, which she wanted to make sure that component remained alongside the weekly farmers market.

“There’s a lot of senior citizens, I will say, and families, they’ll come out, they’ll get their food, they’ll maybe do a takeout, and then they go home and have their meal. And especially in the summertime, we get families (that) come through that have a ballgame at six o’clock or whatever, so they can come through, quickly grab some food and eat on the way. And the seniors use it kind of to as a way of getting out and visiting with people.”

Walker added that people can still sign up to be a vendor with the weekly rate of $10 for a ten-foot by ten-foot space and if someone needed a larger space, the rate is $15.
