The Volunteer Bouton Parks and Recreation Department is putting together a family-friendly movie night on Saturday.

According to Committee member Angela Bru, people are welcome to stop out at the City Park to watch the movie, “Hotel Transylvania” starting at 8pm. She says the movie was chosen at random, but the committee wanted to focus on a film that was appropriate for the entire family. Bru indicates that admission to the movie will be free, but snacks including hotdogs, popcorn, ice cream, and water will be available to purchase. She illustrates that this is the first time the organization is showing a summer movie, as they were looking to do a light-hearted activity in the community.

“Me and a group of ladies wanted something to entertain the kids in our town. We’re a small community and there’s not much going on in our town, so we wanted to keep the kids entertained and keep them out of trouble. We came up with this idea to have events in the town. We had an Easter egg hunt a couple of months ago, and this is just the next idea that we had.”

Bru acknowledges that Saturday’s event is a kick-off to a series that goes throughout the summer, with the next one happening next Saturday, June 28th. She notes that the Volunteer Parks and Rec Department plans to show two movies in July and August as well, and encourages people to follow the Friends of Bouton Iowa Facebook page for further updates.
